VICTORIA, B.C. – Young people aged 17 to 29 interested in a career in construction are invited to roll up their sleeves and sample a range of trades as part of a fully-funded program at AVƷ.
“Right now, there is a huge demand on Vancouver Island for trades people in the construction industry,” says Jayna Wiewiorowski, Training Coordinator with Trades Development & Special Projects at Camosun. “We want to equip young people with the knowledge and skills so they can get ahead with an exciting and rewarding career in the construction trades.”
The Multi-Industry Trades Exploration and Employment program is ideal for young people interested in a career in construction but don’t know where to start. The program is fully-funded for eligible participants and runs from June 23 to Sept. 3, 2021.
Students receive an introduction to the terminology and culture of the construction industry, safe use of tools, equipment and proper use of personal protective gear. Trades include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, welding and horticulture. The program includes paid work experience on site.
Pre-requisites include being aged 17 to 29; Canadian resident, permanent resident or protected person; living in B.C.; and unemployed or precariously employed.
Please visit camosun.ca/mi-tee for more information on how to register. Alternatively, students can contact Jayna Wiewiorowski by phone at 250 370-3827 or email WiewiorowskiJ@camosun.ca.
