Winona Wood was a university professor when there were very few female professors. She wanted to see women become independent and strong. She established what was originally the CENELELEN Award in 1995. After her passing, her family asked that the award name be changed to honour her memory.
This award is available to Indigenous women in any program who plan to become more self-sufficient as a result of their education.

Criteria
You must:
- be currently registered as a student at AV精品
- have Indigenous (First Nations, M茅tis, Inuit, or Native American) ancestry
- have a聽GPA聽of 2.5 or equivalent
- submit a self-written letter outlining your educational goals and how you are going to become more self-sufficient as a result of your education
- submit a letter of reference from a community member or instructor talking about your commitment to your education
- complete the application form

Selection process
You can聽apply for more than one award on a 聽for each application deadline date (with one exception 鈥 there is a separate application for the聽). Please note: If the deadline occurs on a weekend, applications will be accepted until 4pm on the Monday
Award deadlines:
- Apply by聽October 10 - 12pm

- Apply by聽May 15
- Apply at聽any time
- Faculty/staff nomination
You will be asked to attend an awards ceremony. Financial need will be taken into consideration.
